Demelza welcomes local MPs for tour of facilities and to meet staff

Eastbourne Liberal Democrat MP Josh Babarinde visited our site in East Sussex on Monday.

He met with CEO Lavinia Jarrett and was shown round the facilities at the St Leonards on Sea site, where he also met with some of our staff.

Demelza’s specialist nurses based at the community hub provide a hospice at home service for children and young people and also support them and their families in other settings.

On Monday afternoon, Conservative MP for Bexhill and Battle Dr Kieran Mullan also visited the East Sussex site.

He was shown round and saw the facilities, which include a sensory room, activity room and beautiful newly refurbished garden.

Later in the week, Labour Dartford MP Jim Dickson came to Demelza Kent for a tour of the facilities.

He visited our Eltham site earlier this year, as families in his constituency access both.

He was shown around the facilities at our Sittingbourne site, including our large gardens, playground, hydropool, sensory room and music and art therapy room.

Lavinia talked to all the MPs about the services Demelza provides to children with serious or life-limiting conditions and their families across Kent, South East London and East Sussex.

She also talked about the importance of having guaranteed sustainable funding.

Lavinia said: “It’s always a pleasure to welcome in our local MPs and we are proud to show them the facilities we have which allow us to support children with serious or life-limiting conditions and their families, in all of their constituencies.

“It was great to see how impressed they all were with our sites and our teams, who work so hard to provide the services we are so proud to offer.

“We are very grateful to have their support and we appreciate the time spent coming to our sites.”
