About Paul Smith

Paul Smith is a partner at international law firm CMS, where he serves as Practice Group Leader of the Energy, Projects and Construction Group and heads the Infrastructure and Projects Group. He leads a team of more than 300 lawyers and works on high-profile infrastructure transactions across the UK, Europe and the Middle East. His expertise spans advising sponsors, funders and contractors on large-scale projects across sectors such as health, defence, custodial services, education, housing, roads and utilities.

Paul brings extensive experience in commercial transactions and leadership of large legal teams to his role as a Trustee. Through his professional network, he actively seeks to elevate the profile and impact of Demelza. He has contributed pro bono legal support, and his team has participated enthusiastically in fundraising efforts.

A passionate supporter of children’s causes, Paul’s involvement is deeply personal, shaped by time spent at Alder Hey and Great Ormond Street hospitals with his family. He considers his role at Demelza the most rewarding of his career.

Outside of work and trusteeship, Paul lives with his wife and four children, dividing his time between Hoylake on the Wirral and London. When not wrangling infrastructure contracts, he still plays in a band and holds onto the dream of a garden party debut - rock star aspirations never fully fade.
