When you arrive on our website we store a small amount of information about your visit and how you interact with us. This information is stored in a cookie in your browser (e.g. Internet Explorer). We use this data to gain insight into how many visitors are on our site and to build a clear understanding of how and why our website is being used. 

This information is then used to display relevant information to you as and when you need it – meaning you have the best possible online experience with us.  

A cookie is a small text file containing an identifier that is sent by a web server to a web browser and is stored by the browser – Simply put, it allows our website to recognise you if you return to the site and enables us to enhance your experience and provide the most relevant information to you. 

There are two types of cookies we use: “persistent cookies” and “session cookies”. 

  • A session cookie will expire as soon as you finish your time on the Demelza website and close your browser 
  • A persistent cookie will be stored by your browser and will remain there until a certain date (we tend to use standard out of the box expiry date of 90 days) or until it is deleted by you.  

Cookies do not contain any information that personally identifies a user, so they’re perfectly safe. We sometimes use the information from the cookie to understand how you've interacted with our website so that we can improve your experience in future. 

When you first visit our site you'll be greeted with a Cookies Opt In message where you can choose to opt in / opt out of the cookies on our site. 

If you’re using Internet Explorer you can block cookies using the cookie handling override settings available by clicking "Tools", "Internet Options", "Privacy" and then "Advanced"; 

In Firefox you can block all cookies by clicking "Tools", "Options", "Privacy", selecting "Use custom settings for history" from the drop-down menu, and unticking "Accept cookies from sites"; 

 

Chrome allows you to block all cookies by accessing the "Customise and control" menu, and clicking "Settings", "Show advanced settings" and "Content settings", and then selecting "Block sites from setting any data" under the "Cookies" heading. 

You can also use an industry opt-out mechanism such as the DAA's opt-out page. But please bear in mind blocking all cookies will have a negative impact upon the usability of our website and you may not be able to use all of the features of the site.

You can delete cookies already stored on your computer; 

In Internet Explorer, you’ll need to manually delete cookie files. All the instructions you need can be found here.

Firefox allows you to delete cookies by clicking "Tools", "Options" and "Privacy", then selecting "Use custom settings for history" from the drop-down menu, clicking "Show Cookies", and then clicking "Remove All Cookies". 

In Chrome, you can delete all cookies by accessing the "Customise and control" menu, and clicking "Settings", "Show advanced settings" and "Clear browsing data", and then selecting "Cookies and other site and plug-in data" before clicking "Clear browsing data".

Google Analytics 

We use this system to understand how the site is being used in order to improve the user experience. User data is completely anonymous. You can find out more about Google’s position on privacy in regard to its analytics service at Google’s privacy policy. 

Facebook 

We use Cookies to measure the effectiveness of paid advertising on Facebook to ensure the money we spend is used effectively and that the adverts you see are relevant. They also enable us to either show advertisements to or exclude people who have visited our website.  

Retargeting pixel 

To perform site retargeting. A retargeting pixel (a tiny unit of code) on our webpage leaves a cookie in the user’s browser, which causes our adverts to be displayed (or to not be displayed to you if you have opted out) when you visit certain websites within a retargeting network; including but not limited to the Google Display Network, search engines and Facebook.  

Session cookies 

Session cookies are used so that any page changes or data selections you make are remembered from one page to the next.  

Persistent Cookies are stored on your device so that settings or preferences you’ve used previously are saved (for 90 days or until you delete them). This creates a convenient and faster website experience for you. 

 

Sessioncam/Hotjar 

Sessioncam/Hotjar are website recording services which may record mouse clicks, mouse movements, page scrolling and any text keyed into website forms. Data collected is used to improve our website usability. The information is stored and used for aggregated and statistical reporting, it is not shared with anybody else. 

Email tracking 

We put tracking in emails that we send so we can tell how successful these emails are by using a cookie.  

Mailchimp are our chosen email provider and you can read their privacy policy statement on their website.  

Appnexus (UUID2) 

This cookie enables the AppNexus to distinguish browsers and devices. It is matched against information – such as advertising interest segments and histories of ads shown in the browser or device. This information is used by clients to select advertisements for delivery, and to measure the performance of, and attribute payment for, those advertisements.
