Demelza aims to be there for every child at the end of their life, and their family, if they need us.
Specialist end of life care
Our nursing and family support teams are available to help you think about the choices you may wish to consider at this time.
This specialist and essential service can be provided in the home or in either of our two hospices.
Collaborative working
Our nursing and care teams will work with clinicians and carers known to your child to ensure they receive the best possible care and that you feel supported throughout this distressing period.
End of life wishes
It is important that a child’s or young person’s wishes are met. Whatever their age, they may have specific requests to make. This might include writing letters to loved ones, or giving special belongings to people who matter to them. We will work with you to make sure these wishes happen.
Symptom and medication management
As experts in clinical assessment, our registered nurses are able to recognise and respond to a child’s changing condition to ensure symptoms are managed effectively, to alleviate discomfort and to make them as comfortable as possible.
Memory making
Memory making is a very important part of this time, and our team will support you in making these last days special, according to your own particular wishes. We can take photos, hand and foot prints and make memory boxes.
Care continues
Our end of life care continues through to bereavement, so that no family has to face it alone. Please view our bereavement pages for further information.
Mohammed-Yahya's Story
"We were told about Demelza – and said this was a place that could give Mohammed Yahya the care he needed. We cannot describe the feeling of utter relief, the weight falling away from us." - Jamila and Abdul, Mohammed Yahya's parents.
