As we celebrate our 25th anniversary we make special mention of two members of our talented care team who have been with us since we opened the doors of Demelza Kent in 1998!

Demelza Healthcare Assistants Vicky and Anne came on board in August 1998, with doors officially opening in the September. As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, we're delighted to recognise the amazing contributions they have both made during their 25 years at Demelza, and all the families they have supported throughout this time.

Vicky works as a Senior Community Healthcare Assistant, providing care in the community around Kent. Her son also volunteered with Demelza, making this very much a family affair!

“It’s a privilege to work for Demelza; being welcomed into families’ homes and being trusted with their children’s care is so humbling. Giving the parents a break from their day-to-day routine is really rewarding, and if I can prompt the odd smile or little bit of movement from the child I’m working with then it always makes my day. There’s nowhere else like Demelza, I just love it – I can’t imagine being anywhere else.”

Anne works as a Senior Healthcare Assistant within Demelza Kent, and has a specialism in sex and relationships. As well as looking after the children and young people who come in for respite, she also speaks with the teenagers about these topics and works alongside the transition team supporting our young people as they transition from children's services to adult services.

“My whole journey with Demelza has been amazing; I wouldn’t change it for the world. It’s the children and families we work with that make this the best job I’ve ever had. All of the children, even the ones with really severe complex needs, can communicate. When you get to know them, you begin to notice their happy sounds or their little gestures and how they respond to you – and that’s just priceless. I remember so many of the children I’ve worked with, and I’ll have those memories forever. I feel very lucky.”

Thank you Vicky and Anne for playing such a vital role in Demelza's journey so far and providing extraordinary care for extraordinary children over the years.
