Kent couple win top prize in Demelza Superdraw
Shelagh and Jim Beckett are gearing up for a trip of a lifetime thanks to a £25,000 Demelza Lottery win.
The Kent couple described the windfall as a ‘dream come true’ after claiming the top Superdraw prize this year.
Shelagh from Barming was in disbelief when our Lottery team called to say she and husband Jim were winners.
“I honestly thought it was a scam”, said Shelagh. “I passed the phone to Jim and he too couldn’t believe it. We had previously won a small prize but had no idea that it was possible to win a jackpot of that amount.”
Loyal players for 11 years, Shelagh and Jim signed up to join the Demelza Lottery in 2020 after speaking to a sales advisor while on a Christmas outing to Leeds Castle.
Mum-of-two Shelagh, said: “It was the year our daughter got married and her little bridesmaid – the daughter of her friend – had been receiving care from Demelza. Signing up to the Demelza Lotto and Superdraw was the least we could do to contribute to such a great cause.”
A dream holiday
The retired couple are celebrating their win with a dream holiday to New Zealand in 2022 and a stop in Australia to see Shelagh’s sister who lives down under.
“It’s a dream come true”, says Shelagh. “We originally booked a similar trip but it was cancelled twice due to the pandemic. We didn’t sign up to the Demelza Lottery for the prize – I don’t think many people do – we just wanted to do our bit to help.
“We waited over a decade for that call, but it was so worth the wait!”
