Demelza was delighted to be joined by local author, Bridget Nolan, for the grand opening of the new Books and Media shop in Hythe.

The Demelza bookshop in Hythe has long been a feature of the town’s charming high street and is, in fact, one of our oldest shops, having been established back in 1997. As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, we were delighted to host a grand re-opening of the newly located Demelza Books and Media shop. The shop can be found at 100 High Street, Hythe, Kent, CT21 5LE.

The beautifully styled shop has the vibe of a local independent bookseller and was opened on Monday 31 July by Bridget Nolan, a local poet with an affinity to Hythe whose anthologies include “A Walk with Charles Dickens and other poems” and “When Robert Burns came to tea and other poems”.

Andrew Upfield, Demelza’s Head of Retail Operations, said:

“Opening a new shop is a huge effort and I’d like to thank everyone who has got us this far, especially our amazing band of volunteers – we couldn’t do what we do without you! Demelza has had a presence on Hythe High Street since 1997 and we are so well supported here. We’ve really raised the bar in terms of charity bookshops and hope the fantastic community in Hythe will continue to support us, either by buying books or donating stock.”

Leah Langley from Hythe, mum to Nyla, five, and William, two, popped into the shop in the morning. Leah said: “It’s an amazing shop! I’ll be coming back with my two children to check out the children’s section – I’ll also be bringing in some donations too”.
