Demelza staff and volunteers were thrilled to take to the streets of Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, Medway, Swale, Chislehurst and Bromley again last week for Demelza’s annual Tree-Cycle!
More than 790 real Christmas trees were collected from people’s doorsteps in exchange for a donation over the four-day event, resulting in an amazing £11,096 being raised for Demelza’s vital services. This incredible effort was achieved by a huge team of 42 Demelza staff and volunteers!
Chloe Braidford, Demelza’s Senior Campaigns and Innovation Executive, organised the event and said: “To have the support of so many companies over our four-day Tree-Cycle and to raise such an amazing amount is what makes this such a fantastic event. I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone who registered their tree for a collection this year and an even bigger thank you to all of our volunteers who were out in all weathers collecting them!”
Instead of going to landfill or being burned, the collected trees will be recycled into woodchips, with some even coming back to our Sittingbourne hospice. The chips will be used in our six and a half acres of gardens to create a woodland walk area, as well as being mixed in with compost heaps and used as mulch around our many trees and hedges.
We’d like to extend a special thank you to the following supporters who made this mammoth effort possible:
