How we work to ensure Demelza is inclusive
Inclusion is a way of life here at Demelza and we understand that celebrating and embracing the unique differences people bring will make a creative, forward thinking organisation. Having a diverse team means we get a variety of views and make better decisions. It also helps us to understand and meet the needs of the diverse families we support. We are continually striving to improve our approach to equality, diversity and inclusion. Please see our EDI statement for further information.
How we work to ensure Demelza offers a safe environment
As a children’s hospice charity, we have a duty of care to ensure our people share Demelza’s commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. All job offers are therefore subject to the satisfactory receipt of references, new employee screening checks, verification of any professional qualifications and DBS clearance, relevant for their role.
All staff and volunteers are required to undertake regular safeguarding training relevant to their role.
Demelza has been awarded the Silver Kent and Medway Workplace Wellbeing Award
The programme, funded by Kent County Council and Medway Council, helps businesses become healthier places to work, and focus on the wellbeing of their employees. Not only does Demelza have steps in place to be a healthy workplace, but we’re also committed to continual improvement, and sustaining this long into the future.
As a Disability Confident Committed Employer we have committed to:
- Ensure our recruitment process is inclusive and accessible
- Communicating and promoting vacancies
- Offering an interview to disabled people who meet the minimum criteria for the job
- Anticipating and providing reasonable adjustments as required
- Supporting any existing employee who acquires a disability or long term health condition, enabling them to stay in work
- At least one activity that will make a difference for disabled people
